Located in South Canaan Township, Wayne County, Pennsylvania, the S.R. 3020 bridge replacement project was a significant endeavor aimed at enhancing transportation safety and infrastructure resilience. The previous structure was replaced with a state-of-the-art single-cell precast concrete box culvert, designed to handle a 25-year storm event, which previously caused roadway flooding.
Key challenges included streambank stabilization to prevent erosion and the relocation of aerial utilities to maintain a clear work zone. TWT employed innovative solutions, such as integrating fish baffles into the culvert design, ensuring ecological considerations were met. The project also featured a raised profile, superelevation, and improved stormwater drainage systems, significantly enhancing roadway safety and functionality. Completed within a 90-day road closure period, the project has received positive feedback from PennDOT, reflecting TWT’s commitment to quality and client satisfaction.
