Citrix Headquarters

Taylor Wiseman & Taylor was contracted to provide a steel as-built for a nearly 100-year old building that was to be renovated into the Citrix headquarters in Raleigh. The building had previously been the Dillon Supply warehouse.

TWT decided that laser scanning would provide the best solution and most accurate results. The environment was challenging due to the dust, demolition and heavy machinery that was continual during the day. We used a combination of spherical and paper targets to register the scans together, and also to move the cloud to state plane coordinates. A total of 23 scans were made, with a maximum registration error of 0.0066’ and a mean registration error of 0.0007’.

Using a combination of Realworks 7.2 and Civil 3D, a best-fit column line grid was produced at the top of column, rather than down at ground level. Bottom of beam elevations, along with the elevations of various specified points, were supplied, as well as deviations from provided column line grid.

The original plans were significantly different from our results with the laser scanner which undoubtedly saved our client time and money. TWT has been asked to provide additional information on several occasions, but we haven’t had to send a field crew back to the site, as all the data is available from the original point cloud in our files.
